Prague - The Prague Town Hall banned a demonstration by radar base opponents planned for Sunday due to security reasons.
"The march would interfere with the security situation related to US President Obama's visit and the EU-NATO summit," Town Hall spokesperson Jiří Wolf said.
The Ne základnám (No to radar bases) organizers planned to march from the Wenceslas Square through Mezibranská Street, Sokolská Street, Nusle Bridge and end up at the Hrdinů Square.
The town hall proposed a different route to the organizers but they declined.
"The new route would not bear the same purpose, that is why we decided to reject it," Ne základnám member Jan Májíček told press agency ČTK.
The organizers said that they would ignore the ban and stage the protest around the announced route anyway. They expect a turn-up of 2,000 people.
The Palach Square and Wenceslas square will see other protests against the US radar base on Sunday.
No violence or vandalism is expected, according to police head Marin Červíček.
