Prague - The German government announced Tuesday that for 17 days they would open their checkpoints at the border with the Czech Republic to control who is entering the country on the eve of the NATO-EU summit.

The border checks ended in December 2007 when the Czech Republic accessed the passport free Schengen Zone.

The summit is due to take place in Germany and France on April 3 and 4.

"Germany will renew the border checks between Macrh 20 and April 5," said Interior Ministry spokesperson Jana Malíková.
