Kolín/Praha - A young man was shot in the head on Tuesday evening as he tried to evade police in a village of Cerhenice in Kolín, central Bohemia.

According to private TV NOVA, the 20-year old man tried to escape the police through the window.

The police fired a few warning shots and one of the bullets hit the man's head, said the Central Bohemia's police spokesperson Soňa Budská.

The man was taken to Prague's Central Military Hospital in a helicopter. He is in a critical condition.

The man was to be arrested for alleged sexual abuse of a 14-year old girl.

According to Soňa Budská, the shooting incident is being now investigated by the Interior Ministry, which is trying to determine whether the policeman and policewoman were justified in opening fire.
