Leading presidential candidate Fischer's ties to GOP

Behind the scenes - According to the open campaign account of Czech presidential candidate Jan Fischer, his visit to the USA two weeks ago cost CZK 500,000 (EUR 20,000).

During his visit, Jan Fischer took pictures with Republican Senator John McCain and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, also associated with the Republican Party. Notably, Fischer did not meet with any representative of the Democratic Party... (read more here).

PM Necas aims at detente with China

Revealed - One week after his infamous Dalai Lama-bashing speech, Czech PM Petr Necas met with Chinese ambassador Yu Quigtai.

Czech Insider learned this from diplomatic sources, and the government's spokesman Michal Schuster eventually confirmed the meeting, adding that it took place on Monday 17 September.

Schuster refused to give any hint on what topics were discussed at the meeting... (read more here).

Gazprom Export CEO Medvedev to visit Prague

Behind the scenes - Alexandr Ivanovich Medvedev, born 1955, is the second man in charge of Russia's gas giant Gazprom, even though some sources say that his influence on the state firm is actually bigger than that of CEO Alexey Miller.

In addition, Medvedev is the top manager of Gazprom Export, a crucial daughter company responsible for supplying the natural resource to Europe... (read more here).
