Praha - Czech Defense Ministry objected today to Russia´s angry response against the US defense missile pact to be deployed in the Czech Republic.

After the first part of the US-Czech defense missile deal was signed on Tuesday, Moscow sent threats that it would retaliate militarily should the treaty be ratified by Czech lawmakers.

Head of Defense Policy and Strategy Department Ivan Dvořák voiced the Ministry´s agitation with Russia´s bellicose rhetoric at a meeting with  lieutenant general Yevgeni Nikolaievich Buzhinsky from Russia´s Defense Ministry.

"The Czech side has clearly confirmed their interest to continue negotiations with Russia but we are disconcerted over the continuing inadequate rhetoric and warnings of Russian authorities towards the Czech Republic," says the official statement of Czech Defense Ministry.

"At the same time we pointed out that such kind of rhetoric is considered in our country as inteference in internal affairs of the Czech Republic," says the official announcement.

Moscow ready to retaliate

Russia´s Foreign Ministry warned that they would be forced to react militarily if the defense system is sited near Russia´s borders.

Dmitry Medvedev had a sharp word to say: "We will not be hysterical about this but we will think of retaliatory steps...We are not closed to further negotiations and we will continue these," added Medvdev at G8 summit in Japan.

It is completely obvious that, after the signing of the treaty [with the Cyech Republic] a new stage in implementing the idea of the missile shield has started. We are extremely upset by this situation," elaborated Russian president.
