David Rath's arrest: Police used insider source

Revealed - On Monday 14 May, Central Bohemia governor and Social Democratic deputy David Rath was arrested with CZK 7 million (EUR 280,000) on him. He was also carrying his firearms license, a 5-round revolver and an expandable baton. The following day, Rath was charged by police with accepting the money as a bribe for manipulating a contract for the reconstruction of the Bustehrad Chateau near Kladno, Central Bohemia... Suspicions surround Temelin spent nuclear fuel storage

Prague - In April 2008, Czech state-owned energy giant CEZ held a public tender for the construction of a spent nuclear fuel storage for the Temelin nuclear plant. CEZ planned to pay CZK 490 million (roughly EUR 20 million) for the contract, but the sole bidder was Liechtenstein company CEEI which offered to build the facility for more than three times as much (CZK 1.5 billion)... Debt crisis hits Czech Rep with full force

Economy - Excessive saving is a likely explanation of the economic contraction reported in the first quarter of 2012. Half of EU member states are already in recession, and the Czech Republic is among the hardest-hit. In the last 12 months, the Czech economy shrank by one percent.
