Prague - Output of car manufacturing companies based in the Czech Republic reached a new record in the first quarter of 2012.

According to fresh data of the Automotive Industry Association (AutoSAP), in total 355,458 cars were manufactured in the Czech Republic in Q1 2011. It is a 13 percent increase compared to the same period in 2011, which was in itself a record year in terms of car production.

What to expect from Skoda Auto in 2012?

Passenger cars constituted the major part of the output, with 349,026 cars manufacture (a 13.7 percent increase).

"The results of the first quarter indicate that the car production should rise significantly above 1.2 million of manufactured cars also in 2012," said AutoSAP President Martin Jahn.

Car manufacture is still a key engine of the Czech economy and export. Export of cars increased almost by 13.5 percent compared to one year ago.

Jahn explained that the increase of car exports has positive influence on related industrial sectors, such as spare parts production.

While Škoda Auto (Volkswagen Group's subsidiary) remains the Czech Republic's largest car producer, Hyundai overtook TPCA Czech as the number two. While Škoda and Hyundai boosted production, TPCA's output decreased in Q1 2011.
