Berlin - Olympic champion Barbora Špotáková takes "only" silver in javelin at the World Athletic Championship in Berlin.
Špotáková was defeated by 37-year old Steffi Nerius of Germany who threw 67.30 meters, which is 88 centimeters further than Špotáková.
The Olympic Gold winning Špotáková took the silver with a throw of 66.42 meters.
"I'm maximum satisfied because every medal in a world championship is great. And Steffi is ending her career. I wish her all the best," said Špotáková.
Nerius with her home crowd behind her back was even more satisfied. This championship is her last one and she thinks it is the ideal moment to retire.
"I'm a German champion and I'm a world champion," Nerius said. "It was the best season of my life and that's a point to finish this career."
Maria Abakumova of Russia settled for the bronze with a throw of 66.06 on her final attempt.
