Praha - Life expetancy of Czechs keeps steadily rising.

According to the preliminary results of the Czech Statistical Office, life expectancy stands at an average of 73.7 years for men and 79.9 years for women.

Compared to 2006, life expectancy of Czechs has increased by 2.4 months.

Since the time of the fall of the Austrian-Habsburg Empire life expectancy keeps continously increasing - men have been living longer by an average of 26 years and women by 30 years.

A radical rise of life expectancy was noted in the 1920s when women lived longer by 8 years and men by 7 years.

The post-war period brought further rise of life expectancy by 5 years. However, during the 1960s and 1970s Czech men and women lived shorter lives than in previous years and life expectancy slightly decreased at that time.

After the fall of communism women have started to live longer by 4 years and men by 5.6 years.

The average life expectancy is influenced by a person´s state of health, living conditions, level of medical care and economic development and general state the country happens to be in.
