Praha - Police don't have it easy anywhere in the world. It's hard for the officers of the law to earn the public´s trust, particularly that of the Czech public.
The latest poll, conducted by the STEM agency in June, shows that Czech police are trusted by less than half of Czechs.
Only 42 percent of Czech citizens are said to trust the police in general, while about 50 percent trust police investigators.
The poll surveyed 1,244 adult respondents.
Compared to the February poll, the level of trust has dropped by 5 percent.
Mere 5 percent of Czechs also clearly support the police.
The public's trust in police has generally increased since 1994 but the negative perception of policemen still prevails. Seventeen percent said they certainly do not trust police officers, while 41 percent said they tend to trust them.
The level of trust in police and police investigators depends mainly on the political orientation of the respondent.
Civic Democratic voters trust police the most, while the Communist Party voters are the most skeptical.
Apart from that, the level of trust seems to be also influenced by the living standard of the respondent. The higher it is, the more the person seems to trust the police.
