Praha/Vsetín - The city council of Vsetín is planning to wrap up the field work for local Roma communities. The reason is the city council has not received a coveted funds for the field work this year.

"The town of Vsetín applied for 540 thousand CZK for 3 Roma field workers, while 162 thousand CZK was to be paid from Vsetín´s own budget. But the government gave us only 100 thousand CZK, which is hardly 20 per cent of the budget needed for our field workers," said Vsetín´s spokesperson Eva Stejskalová.

Radka Soukupová, director of the State Council for Roma Community Issues, says Vsetín´s city council does not act reasonably.

"The city council got 10 million CZK from the state budget, which is meant to serve mainly small towns," explained Soukupová.

"No city council is to receive the amount of money they are asking for," said Soukupová. "Vsetín´s city council cannot rely on the money they are asking for," added Soukupová.

However, the city council claims that should they not receive the funds they asked for, they will cancel all field works for Roma communities.

The council argues that last year they received 500 thousand CZK they asked for without any problems.
