Prague - Type two diabetes. That is the diagnosis doctors gave to Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek recently.
"Yes, it is true, during a preventive check-up I had bad blood test results and I was diagnosed a type two glycemia," said the PM to Czech Hospodářské noviny daily.
Insulin not required yet
Allegedly, the illness is not affecting Topolánek in his duties. This type of diabetes does not require insulin injections at this stage.
However, the PM needs to be on a strict diet, undergo regular check-ups and to measure his blood sugar level every week.
50 percent chance of total recovery
Type 2 diabetes affects people over 40 years of age almost exclusively. In these cases, doctors recommend for patients to exercise and limit smoking and alcohol intake.
According to his words, Topolánek has lost 13 kilograms in the past several weeks.
If he will follow all of the recommendations, he has a roughly 50 percent chance to recover totally in a few years, according to doctors.
