Travel agencies lobby Foreign Ministry to declare Egypt safe
Behind the scenes - At the beginning of June, the Foreign Ministry advised Czech tourists in Egypt to avoid travel to the Sinai peninsula, including the much-visited Sharm el-Sheikh resort. Two days later, the ministry reduced the travel alert, saying that the south part of the peninsula including Sharm el-Sheikh was safe, and the danger was limited to the northern part and the Taba resort. EP Holding: New rival to CEZ, created by CEZ
Analysis - There is a new energy empire emerging in the Czech Republic that can rival the dominant position of state-owned heavyweight CEZ. In 2010, the companies belonging to EP Holding made CZK 50 billion in revenue and CZK 9 billion in net profit. EP Holding's revenue thus equaled 25 percent of the annual revenue of CEZ. Ironically, EP Holding would have never emerged without the active support from CEZ. (Read more here)

EC won't resume EU funding until October
Revealed - The European Commission (EC) will not resume EU funding for the Czech Republic until October 2012, and even this date is far from definite. The European Court of Auditors (ECA) said this to the Czech government's representatives in a special 7-hour session on Monday 18 June. Czech Insider learned this information from a trusted source close to the negotiation process. (Read more here)
