Zeman's new advisor Kmonicek and his 2000 trip to Iraq

Behind the scenes - Czech ambassador to Australia Hynek Kmonicek will join the team of President-elect Milos Zeman's advisors. Zeman has not specified what will Konicek's role be - the president-elect will allegedly say it after his presidential inauguration in March.

The most controversial moment of Kmonicek's career came in 2000, when he led a Czech business delegation to Iraq, which was under an international embargo at the time... (read more here).

 

TOP 09 lawmaker Polcak investigated for suspicious financial transactions

Revealed - For more than six months, Czech police have been looking into financial transactions in accounts linked to the BJP Klanovice company and Stanislav Polcak, a lawmaker from the junior ruling TOP 09 party. A few weeks ago, police called the case "serious" and launched an official investigation.

Polcak is investigated for possible abuse of assets under his management... (read more here).

 

Jan Fischer interested in Israel ambassador post

Revealed - Former Prime Minister Jan Fischer, an unsuccessful candidate from the January presidential election, is looking for a job. Czech Insider has learned from two diplomatic sources that Fisher is interested in the position of Czech ambassador to Israel.

Interestingly, his possible appointment would have to be approved by his rivals from the presidential vote: Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg and President-elect Milos Zeman... (read more here).
