Prague - Almost three fifths of the Czech population trust the United Nations. NATO, on the contrary, is the least trusted organization among Czechs.

This is the result of the newest study carried out by the Public Opinion Research Centre (CVVM). The organization has questioned 1,062 persons above the age of 15.

The CVVM experts have been asking the respondents whether they are satisfied with certain international institutions, including NATO, the EU, and the UN.

The most trustworthy for the Czechs is the UN, having the support of 59 per cent of the respondents. The second place went to the EU, trusted by 55 per cent. Although, 37 per cent expressed their lack of faith in EU institutions. From the three institutions, the least credible is NATO, which is trustworthy only to 44 per cent of the Czechs.

College educated more trusting

Czechs with higher living standards generally find international institutions more trustworthy.

People with college education trust the EU and NATO, while people in lower socio-economic groups do not.

Potential voters of the Communists party (KSČM) are most likely to be skeptical.

The people's trust in the above mentioned institutions corresponds to their their satisfaction with the Czech Republic's membership in these organizations. Positive attitudes toward membership outweigh the negative views among the country's population.
