Prague - In two days, Czech policemen caught 150 drunken drivers and four under the influence of drugs.

In a special police event on Friday and Saturday, Czech police pulled over roughly 15,000 cars.

Policemen registered 1,436 offences, of which they immediately fined 1,192, in the action dubbed "Y."

In addition, policemen detained 65 perpetrators of criminal acts and seven wanted or missing persons. The police caught 42 drivers who failed to produce a license on the spot and 22 drivers not in possession of a valid license.

80 killed in one month

More than 400 cars were in bad technical condition, 84 drivers exceeded the speed limit, and nine cars were caught without a toll sticker.

Five pedestrians and 29 cyclists were in violation of the road rules, too.

Police organized the "Y" action in response to the worsening state of road traffic in the Czech Republic. In the last month alone, nearly 80 people were killed on Czech roads.
