Prague - Czech extreme right-wing activists hit the media headlines again. This time they are organizing a meeting in Eastern Bohemia, dubbed the Freedom Day and believed to be the biggest event of its kind that has ever taken place in the Czech Republic.

The extreme right wing supporters are expected to flock to an unknown place, somewhere around the town of Pardubice on 16 August.

Probably not coincidentally, it is a day before the anniversary of the death of Rudolf Hess, Adolf Hitler´s deputy in the Nazi Party, who died on August 17, 1987.

As much as 6,000 expected

Neo-Nazi sympathizers from neighbouring countries are to show up as well.

"We expect 5,000 to 6,000 people," Josef Palička from the underground neo-Nazi group called Národní odpor (National Resistance) said for the daily Lidové Noviny.

The Freedom Day event is expected to beat the May Day 2007 record in Brno which was attended by 700 members and supporters of far right groups.

Unknown place?

Last year was marked by an upsurge in public neo-Nazi activities.

Friday this week, ´top´ representatives of the Czech far right scene are to meet to discuss details of the upcoming event, said Palička.

The organizers refuse to say where the event will take place, although it Lidové noviny believe it will be near Pardubice, Eastern Bohemia.

Trouble-free concert

"I can assure you that it will be in Eastern Bohemia," said Tomáš Vandas from Dělnická strana (Workers' Party), which has recently proved to be linked to the far-right scene.

The last public meeting of the right wing extremists took place on August 1 in a small town of Ochoz u Brna in south Moravia. About 400 people attended the event which was publicly announced as an open-air metal and rock concert.

No incidents were reported during the highly monitored event.
