Energy diplomacy: Czech PM to visit Moscow in late-May
Behind the scenes - Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas is preparing one of the most important state visits of his term. Czech Insider has learned that Necas will visit Moscow at the end of May.
As in the case of his 2011 visit to the USA, the trip to Moscow will be mostly about the multi-billion euro tender to expand the Czech Temelin nuclear plant. One of the two bidders for the lucrative public contract is Russia's state company Rosatom... (read more here).
"Carousel frauds" more harmful than offshore tax havens
Business - Czech customs officials are interested in the Offshore Leaks, but tax havens are not the most pressing issue to them.
"Tax evasions carried out by cross-border chain transactions constitute a much more serious problem," said General Financial Directorate spokeswoman Petra Homolova. These chain transactions produce an annual loss of as much as CZK 30 billion in dodged taxes... (read more here).
Sources: Remek "not interested" in post of ambassador to Russia
Behind the scenes - Sources from the Czech diplomatic service as well as from the Communist Party (KSCM) said that Vladimir Remek, the party's member of the European Parliament, is not interested in the post of Czech ambassador to Russia.
"I don't know if he would prefer to be in the European Parliament or Moscow, but on the other side I do not have the impression that he would be rushing to Moscow," said a source from the KSCM... (read more here).
