Pardubice - Two years of probation. That is the ruling of the court in east-Bohemian Pardubice for Czech soldier Miroslav Bartoš who served in the Czech contingent in Iraq.

The information about the ruling was brought by Czech Prima TV.

According to the court, Bartoš committed offence by allowing three automobiles with Iraqi policemen inside the British military base in Basra.

This happened last year in summer when Bartoš was guarding the entry point of the base where international forces are located.

"Confusing rules"

The Brits raised complaints about his deed, arguing that explosives might had been hidden in the cars and thus lives of people in the base had been put into jeopardy.

The soldier defended himself by arguing that he was not able to contact his commander due to technical complications and that the rules specifying under which conditions Iraqis may enter the base had been unclear and varying.

Bartoš told private Prima TV he does not feel guilty. His lawyer has appealed to the regional court.

The Iraq's second largest city had been under the British control since Saddam's fall in 2003. Last year though, the Brits left the city.
