Tourism in the Czech Republic: The fat years are over?

Number of tourists to the country decreasing slowly

Prague - In the second quarter of this year, less tourists went to the Czech Republic than in the same period of the previous year.

The number of overnight stays reached 9.7 million, which is 3.6 percent less than one year ago. Only three- and four-star hotels had more customers.

These data are provided by the Czech Statistical Office.

Which part of the Czech Republic has been visited the most? As always, the capital city. Prague had 1.2 million guests, thus 2.4 percent more than in the same period of the last year.

It is important to note, though, almost two thirds of Prague visitors were Czechs flocking to the city from other parts of the country. About 16 percent more Czechs visited Prague compared to last year.

On the other hand, Czechs still represent only 11.1 percent of the Prague hotel guests.

East European tourism on the rise?

Germany tourists seem to enjoy sleeping over in Prague, as they have the largest number of overnight stays. Compered to the previous year, the number is 10.7 percent lower.

On the other hand, the number of overnight stays of Poles in the country increased by 29.7 percent, while Russians' overnight stays went up by 25.9 percent.
