Prague - Majority of the citizens in the Czech Republic feel European and are content with the country's EU membership, according to the poll conducted by polling agency STEM.
In general, around 76 percent of Czechs feel attached to Europe. These are mostly people of younger age, with higher education and surprisingly, right-wing leaning.
Among those who speak out most freely about their sense of belonging to Europe are voters of the Green Party (88 percent).
Those who hesitate to identify with Europe are voters of the Communist Party (KSČM - 64 percent). The Czech EU Presidency has not changed their attitude towards the European Union at all.
The citizens' support for EU membership has been on the rise, though. Last year saw only 58 percent of Czechs trusting the EU, while this year two thirds of Czechs believe in the EU.
The figures also show positive tendencies towards the role of the Czech Republic in the EU. Forty nine percent are adamant the country can play an active role and promote its own agenda withing the EU, whereas a year ago it was only 40 percent that thought the Czechs can actually change anything.
