President plans trips to Israel, Ukraine, Afghanistan
Behind the scenes - Czech President Milos Zeman has so far visited only neighboring countries. The October visit to Israel will be his first longer-distance trip as president.
Jiri Stengl, chairman of Zeman's SPOZ party, told Insider one month ago that Israeli ambassador Yaakov Levy had visited the party headquarters in Prague and offered assistance to Czech companies. Stengel added that similar export-import assistance is available also from China, Russia, Brazil and India... (read more here).
Czech nuclear project goes against global trend
Revealed - The role of nuclear power is declining globally, said the World Nuclear Industry Status Report 2013.
This message is relevant for the Czech Republic, which plans to spend billions of euros to build two new reactors at the Temelin nuclear plant.
"Only one country in the world, the Czech Republic, peaked its nuclear share in 2012 with 35 percent. In fact, all other countries reached their maximum share of nuclear power prior to 2010," wrote the report... (read more here).
PM admits possibility of changing CEZ top management
Revealed - Czech semi-state energy giant CEZ needs a personnel change, said technocratic PM Jiri Rusnok. "There will be changes. The supervisory board no longer includes state officials and experts. I do not know what kind of energy expert a northern Moravia private doctor from the TOP 09 party is," said Rusnok.
Rusnok even mentioned a possibility of removing former CEZ chief Martin Roman from the position of chairman of the supervisory board... (read more here).
