Police look into "godfather" Ivo Rittig's offshore accounts
Revealed - One of the largest police operations in Czech history that prompted the resignation of Prime Minister Petr Necas last week has a foreign dimension.
"Mr Rittig or his lawyers have established bank accounts and companies in Switzerland, the USA and Cyprus," said Anti-Corruption Endowment Fund (NFPK) chief Petr Soukenka.
Police said that they have requested data from the NFPK on the investigated individuals, and have reportedly used this data... (read more here).
Brits should close their tax havens: Banking expert
Foreign - Tax havens will never entirely disappear, said Austrian banking expert Christian Keuschnigg.
He also said that the United Kingdom's position on the issue is, to a certain degree, hypocritical, because some of the most notorious tax havens are British Overseas Territories, such as the Virgin Islands, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. "The Brits should primarily close these tax havens in their own territories." (read more here).
Czech Evraz suffers EUR 35 million loss for 2012
Business - Evraz Vitkovice Steel, a Czech subsidiary of Russia's Evraz metallurgical giant, suffered a loss of approximately CZK 900 million (EUR 35 million) as a result of decreasing demand from steel consumers in 2012. Czech Insider has learned this from a source well-informed about the company's financial management.
This information means that the company's loss almost tripled from 2011.
