Last project by late Jan Kaplický in České Budějovice
The Congress and Concert Hall Centre with the town's surroundings.
Kaplický's inspiration came from animal and human shapes and forms. The project was supposed to have been built at the site of former barracks.
The triangular shape earned the project a nickname - an eagle ray. According to Kaplický, the black color represented dignity and respect associated with classical music.
This was to be one of the two concert halls. A large eye-shaped window, strongly reminding the window from Kaplický´s blob, would provide a view ofthe surrounding landscape. Zobrazit 8 fotografií

The town of České Budějovice showed more understanding of modern architecture than Prague has and commissioned Jan Kaplický to deisgn a music hall. The Czech born architect died January 13 but his last design will be realised, as promised by the South Bohemian Club of Friends of Music.

The Congress and Concert Hall Centre of Antonín Dvořák has been nicknamed manta ray and it will be built at a place where former barracks used to stand.
