Prague - The provocative artwork of Czech artist David Černý installed at the European Council building is not that provocative any more.
The part which depicted Bulgaria as a Turkish squat toilet was covered up shortly after midnight not to invite media's attention.
Bulgaria expressed a "profound indignation" about the way the country was depicted in Černý´s map of Europe.
Černý apologized to any of the depicted countries that could feel offended by his art installation and offered to remove any of the parts if required. No other countries filed an official protest, although the piece is not flattering to neither of them.
In the meantime, Czech president Václav Klaus has called on the Czech government to distance itself from Entropa. In his view "the mosaic is neither funny nor good" and tarnishes the reputation of the Czech EU presidency.
Klaus also wrote a letter to Bulgarian president Georgi Parvanov apologizing for the offense.
"The only ambition of the mosaic is to shock and mystify people. I fully share the indignation of Bulgarian officials and many citizens who protest against this would-be "piece of art"," says Václav Klaus in his letter to Parvanov.
