Take a look at the EU's new frontier
The building of the Vyšné Německé checkpoint was completely reconstructed in this year's spring. There are five checkpoints between Slovakia and Ukraine two for trains, two for cars, and one for pedestrians.
Since the beginning of 2004, the number of border guards has triplicated. Now there are approximately nine hundred of them.
Thirty five kilometers in the southern region is watched by the so-called "camera chain". Every 180 meters of the border has one camera.
Cameras have night-vision and operate automatically if they detect a movement, they send a signal that appears on the dispatchers' monitores.
