Baltic states safe from Russia, Ukraine not

The minister fears that Ukraine might soon witness a re-run of Russia´s "Georgia scenario".

"Given that Baltic countries are member states of the EU and NATO, they are not under immediate threat. The case of Ukraine is different, though, there is the issue of Crimea, where some influential people claim it is a mistake to be part of Ukraine," explained Schwarzenberg.

"Of course, Russia is changing. But we must not forget that it has never in its history experienced an era of democracy and the rule of law. And the whole country is influenced by that," Schwarzenberg elaborated.

EU summit

Although no sanctions were imposed on Russia at Monday´s EU emergency meeting in Brussels, talks on a new partnership agreement with Moscow have been suspended until all Russian troops have pulled out of Georgia.

EU representatives strongly criticized Moscow's decision to recognize the independence of two Georgian separatist provinces, Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
