Prague - If you travel to or from the Czech Republic by plane, you are likely to see more people at Ruzyně Airport than ever before.

A record high 5.9 million passengers were served at Ruzyně Airport in the first half of the year. This presents a 6-percent growth year-on-year, as Letiště Praha (Prague Airport) informs in its latest report.

The number of flights and landings have increased year-on-year by 4.3 percent, translated into figures, it is a 87,000 passenger increase.

"It basically means that Správa Letiště Praha (Prague Airport Administration) has managed to convince airline companies to use higher-capacity jets," says Jiří Pos, head of Správa Letiště Praha for Aviation Business, Operation and Property Management.

Low-cost companies served 23.9 percent of the total number of passengers, which is an increase of 10 percent compared to last year.

The number of network airline passengers served grew by 7.3 percent.

Of all airlines operating at Ruzyně Airport, České aerolinie (Czech Airlines) was the biggest carrier with the highest number of passangers served in the first half year - more than 2.5 million.

SkyEurope and easyJet Airlines followed, while Travel Service was the fourth biggest carrier and Lufthansa the fifth.
