Prague - Leader of the Social Democrats (ČSSD) Jiří Paroubek asked police for an increased attention to the ČSSD rallies, during which the ČSSD frontman has been pelted with eggs.

The ČSSD leadership has also asked PM Jan Fischer and Interior Minister Martin Pecina to adopt measures to prevent the escalation of the egg incidents.

Jiří Paroubek is adamant that it is the opposition Civic Democrats (ODS) that stand behind the attacks.

Meanwhile, ODS leader Mirek Topolánek denied any involvement of his party in the egg attacks. He told journalists at a press conference Tuesday that it was a "son of the ČSSD local leader that was throwing the eggs the other day".

In an interview for Czech TV, ODS deputy chairman David Vodrážka called on voters to express their objections to the ČSSD politics in the upcoming ballot.

The latest incident took place in Pilsen on Tuesday.

"You are a wimp, you do not even know how to hit a target," ihned.cz server reporterd Paroubek's response to the Pilsen egg attack.

ČSSD has allegedly hired bodyguards that have used force against the egg throwers at one of the rallies in Litoměřice. Lawyers argue it is only police that can intervene with the peprpetrators, not security agencies.

ČSSD member František Bublan told Czech public service radio Tuesday that Paroubek should have taken the whole incident with more humour.

"He should have offered a saucepan to the egg throwers to fry the eggs," Bublan said jokingly.

In the meantime, the community server Facebook has noted around 15,000 people joining the Eggs for Paroubek group, Lidové noviny daily broadsheet reports.
